Understanding Mental Illness
A series of projects based around the topic of understanding mental illness and promoting mindfulness. Using various print and digital methods, I created a series of branding outcomes to promote the topic at hand. The first project worked on was a logo, or a symbol to represent my movement. I used the semi-colon symbol which is often tattooed onto survivors or allies of mental health issues. Along with a rising fist which is commonly used within grass-roots movements. The combination of these two I believe creates an interesting and engaging icon that represents both the idea of supporting those who struggle with mental illness, as well as showing it as a movement of sorts. The next project was based around creating a 'kit' to supply to someone that would be struggling with mental illness. I created a packaging element that replicated boxes you would generally receive for medicine, however added my own satirical twist to the packaging copy. Inside this box would include affirmation cards along with a fully designed foldout A2 booklet, that would flip around and have the movement's icon. Finally, for my final cumulative graduation knowledge object, I created a compendium of interviews between myself, mental health service workers, and people that struggle with mental health. I used expressionist artwork to ensure each reader created their own feelings through the imagery and interviews. I wanted to remove judgement and instead have an inner understanding from each reader.
